Hammock Harbour- Orillia

Postby Sean32 » Fri Jul 30, 2010 9:26 am

Spent 3 nights at this place spot 170 I think. Its treed. not exactly pull through as there is a small ditch but all the other ones around us are. Not too private of a spot, but there are 25 other transient spots. 2 look out on the water, we want that one next time.

Clean washrooms, large campsite. Most spots are seasonal and on the water- they have a lagoon system where there are fingers of land where the seasonals are and all back on to water. Its at the point where Lake Couchiching meets Lake Simcoe. Lots of fishing- I caught 10-12 perch in 10 minutes using a worm just in the lagoons. Go out a bit deeper (boat) and large bass and jumbo perch are abound. They even have a fish cleaning hut on site to use.

Small pool, wading pool, a par 3 golf course, mini-putt (free) course, showers are 25 cents I think, owners and managers are the best we have ever met! Very helpful, even cut some branches back when we rolled in. Ask for anything and it appears. There are grey water connections at all sites, no black on site but there is 1 dump station. There is a honey wagon that will take your black, but that might be a chargeable thing, I never asked.

Roads are all gravel/dirt. Not much dust at all. Some have been oiled.

Casino Rama is 5 minutes up the road, Orillia is 5-10 the other way. No beach on site but many are around the lakes.

For location and services, I recommend. For privacy and hard-core camping, it might not be for you. We will come back though, liked it a lot.

That review certainly sounds positive. Cost wise how was it? I'd consider that place for sure. Thanks for the heads up.

We all liked the spot so much, that after 4 days in French River, we stayed another 3 nights back here, same spot in fact! The spot next to us saw 3 different peeps while we were there- a 38 footer from Florida, and 28' from Saskatchewan and a 30' from Peterborough, all passing through and knew of this place. There was a water outage for about an hour (they are on an artesian well and needed to repalce a hose), but other than that, it was a flawless stay.

Pics? How's 3 thumbs up from the clan! Considering how rare that is....

And some Ospreys that are nesting near the boat launch area...

We also stayed here and found the people very nice. They were full so we stayed in a vacant seasonal sight. We also stayed one night at the casino in the RV parking area. The seasonal campers across from us asked if we wanted a tour by boat and gave us a great tour. They gave us history of the older places along the water, talked about the new development and parked in the marina in Orillia and insisted we try the ice cream. If you enjoy biking you can get on the trail in front of the campground and ride into Orillia. From there you can go forever on paved trails along the water. Beautiful scenery, nice parks, marina, and ice cream stands along the way.

I keep hearing ++++ about this place, and as mentioned one of my co-workers goes here often. Going to make a point of hitting here next summer.
