Knights Beach "resort" review

Postby Sean32 » Sun Jul 04, 2010 9:10 pm

For those who like independent/private sites, this is one of them. Here is our review-

1) Pricey. Sure, its got an on site boat launch, activities (teen dance Sat night, bingo, 50-50 draws), and its own sandy beach, but the price is just too much.

2) Sites kinda-suck. We were on a seasonal site that was vacated. Nestled amoung 25 year seasonals with piece-meal fences, miles of that plastic chain link (yah, that will stop someone from going on your area), stone roads which are dusty, and the tenting area is group style- pull up to any spot you want and hope that no one sets up next to you! They seasonal sites are awning to awning, and certainly not for us. Our site did not have a fire ring, all others did

3) People are, well, you know! Nothing against the Portuguese nationality, this site is 80% Portuguese, and in the middle of World Cup, even though they are long out, does not stop certain lowered honda POS's from taking 10-20 trips around the campsite per day with someone playing some spanish song (may be an anthem), and waving a flag out the passenger window, and riling everyone up and getting all the dogs to bark.. No Canadian flag on Canada Day but we made up for that ;) . Heck, if that's your thing, and you like this type of stuff, have at it. Its not for us. It was very loud (not at night though as most the old fogies that we stayed around are asleep at 10 or so) as people felt it necessary to have conversations across 5 campsites instead of walking over. Again, its not something that we are used to and a bit evasive IMHO.

4) Location, great! About a 1+ hour drive from Hamilton, on the shores of Lake Erie. Choppy waters which meant great skiing and seadooing, and beaching. Sandy beach which was combed each night, and dead fish were scooped up nightly, and there were lots! Only issue was that there are awning-to-awning seasonal trailers everywhere you look. Might be your thing, its not mine. But overall, the Lake Shore Rd was a great winding bike ride/road trip to take. By far, the best feature of the weekend. Oh, they have a decent eatery right on site too, and the staff were very nice.

We won't go back, and would recommend to others to stay away too, unless the above appeals to you.

Not my cup of tea, plenty of other choices on Lake Erie if you know where to look. ;)

Thanks for the review, this place is the typical of why we'll NOT go seasonal now or likely anytime in the future. I'd take my site at Earl Rowe any day over this place.
