Painting a truck cap

Postby WGF3 » Tue May 17, 2011 3:00 pm

Has anyone ever painted a truck cap themselves without going to a bodyshop to get it done? The one I picked up a few weeks ago probably only matches one [dodge] on the forum that I know of (HTR's). Can I just clean off any wax/residue and spray bomb it black?

scuff it up with scotchbrite ... prime it and give a another sand (or scotchbriting) prime again and if it looks good, paint it..

buzz it with 320 paper, shoot a good urathane on it. Is your truck black. Spray bombs won`t look the greatest plus you will need a good amount of them. Will fade fast and or flake off too.

If your not too far from me, you can sand it down in my shop, mask off any windows and I will shoot it for you, one quart of Sherwin Williams Genesis single stage urathane goes for around 60 bucks. No charge for the rest of it.
