Brake Controller Tuning

Postby Origami Camper » Fri Jul 13, 2012 6:41 pm

My Tekonsha Primus controller has a power setting (dial) for max output and an agressivness setting (lever) to controll the amount of power vs. amount of deceleration. If I set it up so that it grabs nicely at cruising speed, it grabs too much at low speed and/or causes the TV to shutter. Regardless of how I set it up, either the low speed grabs too much or it doesn't grab enough at driving speeds. I'm constantly dialing back if there's stop and go traffic, or navigating a campground. And then the settings will be a bit different each time.

Will a P3 work better than my old Primus? Do P3 users have similar issues, or is the control logic that much better?

Thanks

I have a Prodigy(P2) it's great, I sell exclusively the P3's now as there's been a price shift allowing me to do so.

Yes, the logic is THAT much better in the P2 or P3

,,, Never had a problem with the prodigy in the 2500 or the Reese in the 1500 ,,,,was towin' lighter units than you with the reese and I'm sure the bigger brakes etc. in the 2500 has a little some to do with the Prodigy stoppin' smoother too ,,,, I don't like my trailer stoppin' to agressive on the highway ,,, Think my Prodigy has been on the same settin, with the last 2 5er's and one 27 foot TT .

,,, All ya pads/shoes good and adjusted right :?:

Back years ago I had a Primus and I HATED the thing. Could never dial it in right, either left rubber on the road or it was too lazy for my liking. Just couldn't stand it.

Get a Prodigy or P3. In fact my Prodigy will be up for sale within a month. ;)

Got the same problem with Voyageur controller too.. Infact this morning just after leaving the cg I decided to re do the complete set up of both dials .. wasn't to bad on the trip home, except for when in stop and go .....was more like jerk and stop ....

Prodigy or P3

Tested, trusted and proven.

I wanna move up to a P3, so I'm willing to let my prodigy go for $95.00. I have the direct fit harness available (for all makes) as I recall they are $25.00 if you need it.
(Note the Prodigy is my personal and would be a cash deal- anything else has to run through our business account and is taxable- but also would be able to take VISA or MC on it)

I also have the P3's to sell(New in the box). $150.00 plus HST, harnesses for them also (same as Prodigy)

On my way home my P3 came up with Overload and I lost my trailer brakes. I took back roads home and got the trailer to the storage lot. Now I have to troubleshoot what went wrong, it looks like from what I've read the blue wire is shorted to ground somewhere.

Went back to the trailer again tonight and just plugged it in and it worked fine this time. I 'll trace the wires out tomorrow and see if I can find anything.
