Spray Foam Insulation

Postby portliz » Mon Dec 07, 2009 1:46 pm

Me again. Determined to get that rig warm enough for hubby to think winter camping might be fun!!!

We are having someone come to spray foam insulation on the walls of a crawl space addition. I was thinking of asking them to spray foam between the joists under the bedroom in the storage area of the 5 th wheel. - If it didn't cost too much. Is this a good idea? It is a clear storage area - no pipes in that area.

Would this be a problem later getting at something? shower? pipes or vents between the floor and ceiling of the storage area?

Personally think it's a great idea. If there are no utilities in the way I can't see how it would hinder you down the line. Most can be easily removed through mechanical means of scraping/cutting it away anyways.

I agree with shum,,,even if you had to remove some of it,,,it's nothing that a knife and a paint scraper wouldn't take care of,,,,,they have even started using that process down here in the attics and walls,,,you get a 100 % complete penatration in even the smallest cracks,,,,,the only place where I could see you running into a problem,,is someone not wanting to mix up such small batch for that little area,,just wondering if they would think it would be worth their time for such a small area,,,I'm sure they could make the price worth their time,,,,,maybe you could find a contractor that was on a big job somewhere and set up a time to meet him with the 5er,,on his job site,,,,it wouldn't take 10 mins. for him to spray what you want done,, ,,,,,,your DH must be real cold natured ,,,huh ?

I was thinking the same thing with my rig, as it seems the storage area/passthru seems to be a gigantic cold spot that just eminates thrugh into the bedroom.

I can see ZERO downside to it. Even if it was $200.00 it's money well spent IMHO [thumbs_up]

Another vote for it. I see virtually no downside. Given the amazing difference I have personally noticed with only reflectix and expanding foam, spray foam should yeild good results.

$200 will buy a lot of the canned stuff, a couple practice runs and I think YOU guys could do this job yourself.

We are having someone come to spray the crawl space under our addition. Just thought if they needed to clear the hoses when done - they could do it in the storage space of the 5er. If it doesn't cost much and they are here anyway - doesn't hurt to ask.

Especially now that we finally have snow!! :o

Thanks all.

As long as they have no grief getting to it, I can't see it being uber costly, IIRC those hatches you could likely crawl righ int ansd shoot it in less then 5 minutes.
I'll bet it's a $50 dollar bill, in which case that's a no brainer. [thumbs_up]

Are you guys talking about the cans of spray foam sold at CT HD etc when you talk about a few cans of the stuff ? Do they also have insulating value ?
