Newbie needs help!

Postby DennisandLaney » Mon Nov 30, 2009 12:24 am

Hi all. My wife and I just purchased an '04 Fleetwood Terry Quantum 330RLDS. It's a real nice TT (in my opinion at least - its our first foray into camping). We're heading out of South Florida for some winter fun in the Northwest. One of the reasons why we went for this TT was because we were told the tanks are heated. After getting it home and playing with the breakers, switches, etc., I have no idea how one could turn on the tank heaters, or if they're automatic or what. Even NADA lists "heated tanks" as standard equipment for our model. I crawled under the TT and looked at the tanks - there are four or five small wires going into the center of each of the tanks. Could there be heating elements built in? There isn't a liner on the bottom, and no heat pads like the ones other people have posted about. PLEASE HELP! I want to do as much prepping before I leave.

Thanks!

Dennis

Welcome!

Off the top of my head those do not sound like heating pad wires but the wires for the tank full/empty sensors. Are they on the side of the tank?

If they are electrically heated which they would have to be if your underbelly is exposed there will heating pads adhered to the bottom of the tanks, I have seen it no other way except if the belly is closed in and heated by the furnace like mine. I've never heard or seen of heaters inside the tanks they are always on the exterior bottom.

How about a couple of pictures for us to look at?

I found a pdf brochure for the 2005 models.

http://www.oconnorrv.com/brochures/fleetwood/2005_terry_bro.pdf

It lists the tank heaters as an option not standard equipment and I suspect very much it is the same for the 2004 model year.

Welcome aboard Dennis!

Nice Floorplan!

The brochure also list a "Underbelly – Is a lightweight, seamless, durable weather barrier" that he is not seeing on his trailer...perhaps the previous owner removed the barrier???

That would be the Darko membrane that is on the bottom of the floor of every trailer I've ever had not a belly covering

Maybe just my definition of underbelly.....the bottom of my floorboard has a plastic wrap but I would not call that a weatherproof underbelly ..... knowing how brochures are written though you are probably right.

Does 5 wires sound like more than the usual count for level indicators?

Well he says four or 5 so.... with empty, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, full and ground wire that would cover all those wires. Heating pads would be two I think. They are self regulating so...........

Again heating pads could be retro-ed onto the tanks, elbows and valve area without a whole lot of work. Trailblazer did it so anyone could do it
